About Little Seed Counseling

The Significance of "Little Seed"

Picture

Life is a lot like gardening. No matter how intentional we are about keeping things neat and tidy, it gets messy sometimes! Like gardeners, we are tasked with carefully tending to seeds of possibility with self-compassion, nurture, and patience. We don't often see the fruits of our labor right away; however, steady and consistent attention creates beautiful blooms.

My name is Jena Plummer and I’m a therapist. That means I help folks who are struggling with addiction, grief, and trauma get out of their own way.

I am passionate about fostering a safe, inviting space to talk about your own "little seeds" – the things you've always wanted to experience that haven't felt within reach. I want to help you embrace the mess, learn from it and clean up what you no longer have use for. I am trained in a variety of different therapeutic techniques to walk with you through the pain, grief, shame, and trauma, identifying and breaking down obstacles to living the life you have been missing out on.

Jena – The Person
As a person, I show up to my office with an understanding of my own humanness. I have my own counselor because I believe in the value (and sometimes magic) of counseling. I find healing in artwork, writing, music, and creating. I named my child after a Phish song. I don't eat meat. I reload the dishwasher after my family loads it up the first time. I am desperately imperfect, and I want to help you embrace and make friends with that part of yourself, too.

Jena – The Counselor
As a counselor, I provide structure, goal setting and deep emotional work. I am not a run-of-the-mill general counselor. I can certainly work with most mental health struggles, but I am sought out for my specialty work. As it turns out, many of the folks who see me for anxiety or depression wind up sharing that the roots of their current feelings stem from a history of addiction, trauma, or grief as well.

  • I work with trauma because I have experienced trauma.
  • I work with addiction because it has ripped its way through my family system. I have seen hope firsthand and I want to share that with you, too.
  • I work with infertility because I have personal experience with IVF, loss, and third party reproduction.
  • I work with grief because I have experienced pain that is so, so deep, and I know how it feels to adjust after loss.

Jena – The Lifelong Learner
As a professional, I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate, a National Certified Counselor, a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist-Individual and a bunch of other titles that mean I've studied a lot and put some time and effort into my career and passion. I know that the "alphabet soup" of my certifications and licensure isn't all that meaningful to most people. More importantly, throughout my career, I have learned how to walk alongside my clients, trudging through shame, grief, and trauma while identifying and overcoming self-defeating behaviors along the way.

I specialize in trauma-informed therapy. I take an eclectic approach using therapy styles that include:

  • Motivational interviewing
  • Inner child work
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • The Gottman Method (with couples and families)

I often work with clients who are experiencing:
  • Relationship Struggles
  • Addiction/Codependency
  • Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Grief and loss
  • Infertility

You didn't come to this page because everything is going well in your life. Let me help you navigate the things you are struggling with.
