A Season of Self-Care

Everything in nature seems to slow down in the colder months. Mother Nature is pretty incredible -- she's got it all figured out. She allows herself extra time to rest, to cool off and to shed what is no longer necessary for her.

But, humans seem to do exactly the opposite. I don't know about you but my schedule is booked full of holiday concerts, baking, volunteering and gift wrapping. It's absolutely exhausting and yet the demands to keep going get louder every year. For some of us, the conscious decision to unravel the traditions of the past and start fresh with a much lighter load is the answer. For others, this might just not be feasible. We might want to do some of the things we love and are just having a hard time fitting it all in. Either way, some mindful planning is always helpful -- especially if you struggle with seasonal depression!

The key to taking care of ourselves during this season is to make sure that we have the energy and desire to actually do the things we commit to. I don't know about you, but I would much rather have energy to sing Mariah Carey at the top of my lungs with my kid while we bake cookies than to spend all my time shopping and wrapping gifts. In our newest YouTube Video, we spend time discussing this in more detail and giving you tips on how to adjust your expectations for yourself during the holiday season.

So, go ahead -- break out your most beloved holiday traditions but make sure to check in with yourself along the way!
