Meet Rithy Vang
LCSWA
HE/HIM
In-Person & Virtual
TEENS, ADULTS, & COUPLES
Hi, I’m Rithy Vang (he/him), a therapist at Little Seed Counseling.

I’m an openly proud gay man and a first-generation Asian American (Cambodian & Hmong). My own identity is central to the work I do — because I know firsthand how mental health, identity, culture, and belonging are deeply connected.

I provide individual and couples therapy for people who want a space where they don’t have to explain who they are or filter their experiences. My clients are often navigating trauma, anxiety, relationship stress, or cultural and family expectations that feel hard to shake. Many are queer, neurodivergent, or both — and want support that honors all of their intersections.

Whether you're feeling stuck in survival mode or searching for more alignment with your values, I’ll meet you where you are with compassion, curiosity, and care.

MY SPECIALTIES
Areas of Expertise
While I work with a variety of different clients from all walks of life, I do my best work with:

Trauma and PTSD
I work with clients who have experienced complex trauma — whether from family dynamics, identity-based harm, cultural pressures, or systemic injustice. My trauma-informed approach helps you process at your own pace while reconnecting with your sense of agency and safety.
Relationship Therapy
I support couples in improving communication, rebuilding trust, and honoring each other’s identities. I use the Gottman Method and an affirming lens to help relationships grow with more intention, whether you're navigating conflict, cultural differences, or neurodivergent dynamics.

Anxiety and Depression
If you feel overwhelmed, shut down, or constantly stuck in your head, you're not alone. Together, we’ll unpack what’s contributing to those experiences and explore new ways to cope, care for yourself, and reconnect with your sense of stability.
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy
Therapy should be a place where your full identity is not only accepted, but celebrated. I work with clients exploring gender, sexuality, and identity — including queer, trans, nonbinary, and questioning folks — all in a space where you don’t have to mask or educate.
Neurodivergent Mental Health
I provide affirming support for Autistic and ADHD clients navigating emotional regulation, executive functioning challenges, masking, and burnout. I don’t treat neurodivergence as something to fix — we’ll work together to understand your brain and build systems that support it.

Life Transitions and Identity Work
Whether you’re coming out, starting over, redefining your values, or healing from a major shift, I’ll walk with you as you explore the next chapter of who you are becoming.

Rithy's Story
I was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and moved to North Carolina in 2012. At the age of 21, I came out as gay to my family — a pivotal moment that shaped my understanding of identity, resilience, and self-acceptance. I know what it’s like to feel caught between cultures, expectations, and the desire to be fully yourself.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in youth and family services, sexual health, neurodivergent support, and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. These experiences taught me that mental health is something we all carry — and that healing happens when we feel truly seen.

I earned my BSW in 2019 and my MSW in 2025, and I’ve been committed to creating affirming, culturally responsive therapy spaces ever since. I use a variety of modalities — including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Brainspotting, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), mindfulness, and psychoeducation — to support my clients. For couples, I integrate the Gottman Method with an identity-conscious, collaborative approach.

Outside of therapy, you’ll usually find me in the kitchen making Southeast Asian coconut curry, playing board games or RPGs, or out on the court playing volleyball or dodgeball. I also come from a big, blended family — with six older siblings and eight younger siblings — so I know a thing or two about navigating complex relationships.

Above all, I believe therapy should feel like a space where you don’t have to shrink to belong. If you’re ready to show up as you are and move toward healing, I’d be honored to walk with you.
